There are a lot of good reasons to watch the short film Little Doorways To Paths Not Yet Taken, not least of which includes this shot of Laurie Spiegel‘s Blackwing in its native habitat.
This short feature was filmed, directed, and edited by Aura Satz, and can be watched here:
I noticed in the documentary “RBG” ,Supreme
Court Justice Ruth Ginsberg is seen
Using a Blackwing.

I also noticed the Blackwing in the “Notorious RBG” film. It went by so quickly I wasn’t entirely sure, but your also seeing it confirms what I thought.
Re: the Blackwing on my music writing desk being in its native habitat, I wish it were still possible to get the kind of pocket-sized staff paper pad that the Blackwing is sitting on that we used to be able to take with us everywhere. My iPhone is not up to replacing the pair of them in the slightest.

Regarding RBG, though I’m not certain, it appears to me that she’s using one of the many Palomino-branded pencils called Blackwing. Correction welcomed.
Pocket-sized staff paper: there are a couple that I like, such as Henle’s pocket-sized manuscript paper https://www.halleonard.com/product/viewproduct.action?itemid=51488000
Here is an old blog post about the pocket-sized books: https://contrapuntalism.blog/2012/09/01/g-henle-verlag-merkheft/
My favorite vendor is in Germany, called STAR Notenschreibpapiere https://www.star-notenschreibpapiere.com
They have some small pads as well as small folios, etc.

Thanks for those links. Will check them out.
Until there is a closeup that gives us accurate info I’m going to choose to believe RBG hoarded a supply of the original Blackwings she had probably already been using for decades by the time that they stopped being made. You are welcome to call me an idealist. 🙂

Confirmed! I took this pic back in late May when I saw it in the theatre — I can’t believe I got the camera app open on my phone in time! It’s hard to tell how dark the barrel is, but it’s got a black eraser on it, so it’s either the early-style Palomino Blackwing 602 (before they started putting a pink eraser on it) or a later-model Palomino Blackwing (what we call on the Erasable Podcast the “MMX”, since it was introduced in 2010) where they started putting a black eraser on.
Also YAYYY she’s a fellow left-hander!

Totally great catch to open your shutter on exactly this image. Also a fellow left-hander I’m nonetheless dismayed that it’s a Palomino instead of a true vintage Blackwing. But she has far more important things on her mind than which pencil she’s using.

Columbo Season 1 Episode 6 “Short Fuse” near the end the murderer Roddy McDowall takes over the victim’s office. When Columbo enters to confront him he’s pretending to work on a document and playing with what looks like a Blackwing but it’s hard to tell for sure. It first aired in January 1972
