It seems that, more and more, I very much prefer what words used to mean, e.g. “agony” (suffering) from agōn which meant “contest”, or sometimes “struggle”. This picture represents a “struggle” much more than it does “suffering” per se.

Perhaps my favorite Stravinsky work is Agon, which Balanchine choreographed so powerfully.
