Here is an advertisement for the Blackwing 602 in an Art Brown catalog from the year 1978. This excerpt is part of a larger collection found at Leadholder.com.
Note the 50¢ each / $5.00 per dozen price! It is also interesting to see it grouped with the EF Ebony, as well as the Eagle and General layout pencils.
Thanks for this!
The Blackwing looks a bit shorter than usual…

Thanks Memm. I just want to reiterate that I’ve only appropriated it from Leadholder. 🙂
But, yes, it’s a bit short—I suspect to fit into the copy (and poorly laid-out I’d add). You can see that some of the pencils are drawn and others are halftone photos…probably just to update a previous layout.
In fact, I’m hoping to get some advertising copy soon from an Eberhard Faber catalog from the 1980s, and the Blackwing in that catalog is not only still drawn but is of an older-looking model. When I find out more I’ll post it here.

Ahh, my kingdom for a time machine…
Also, is it just me or is the illustration for the General’s Layout pencil kinda terrible?

It has a look whereby the copy should have something like “…cures rheumatism, will make you confident, and balances all of your bodily humours…” added to the end.

As a business, Art Brown seems to have outlasted Eberhard Faber. I would like to visit them someday.

(Not familiar with the Eagle line, it might qualify for a 4th.)
