Mad for Blackwings

The Show Mad Men is often praised for its attention to period detail, from the clothing all the way down to—you guessed it—writing utensils.

I wonder if there is some assistant who, after scenes are completed, must scurry after the actors and make sure the pencils don’t disappear. I also wonder if, extrapolated pound for pound, the Blackwings are the single most expensive prop on the show.

That’s an impressive attention to detail. Makes me respect and want to watch the show (if I had cable!). They could have used the much cheaper Venus Velvet, which was around at the time, or the Mongol, but it would not have been as powerful visually.

But hey, wait a minute, is he writing on a Moleskine large reporter notebook?

  3. Kudos to you, Sean, for catching that! I watch this show every week and seem to have missed that. I feel silly about it now.

Sigh. It’s too bad Kinsey isn’t on anymore, isn’t it? He was awesome.

Very coincidental you should publish this particular post today. I just posted my latest Reviving the Blackwing post today covering the slogan “Half the Pressure, Twice the Speed” and speculatiing whether the Mad Men were responsible for the slogan or not?

I also defintely had noticed Mirados before on the show, but not the Blackwing. Nice catch.
